Device Compatibility Check

Before purchasing, make sure your phone supports eSIM and is network unlocked.

1
Confirm your phone is network unlocked

Most phones in New Zealand are network unlocked and good to go! However if you bought your phone from a carrier on a plan, it may be locked to the carrier. A locked phone will only work with your current carrier's SIM or eSIM.

To check if your phone is unlocked:

  • Open your phone's SIM or Mobile Network settings and look for an option to add a new eSIM or carrier — if it's locked, this may be greyed out or show an error.
  • Try inserting a SIM card from a different carrier — if it works, your phone is unlocked.
  • Contact your current carrier and ask them to unlock your device — most carriers will do this for free once your contract is complete.
