What 2degrees charges

2degrees Daily Roaming

$8per 24 hours

1GB per day at full 4G/5G speed.

Calls and texts
Unlimited calls and texts to NZ and local numbers while in the covered Travel Zone.
Hotspot
Included — your daily allowance can be tethered.
After the allowance
After 1GB per day at max speed, data is throttled to 128 Kbps for the rest of the day. You will not be charged extra for going over.
Zone
Vietnam is in 2degrees’ Asia-Pacific Roaming Travel Zone. Other regions can attract higher rates or PAYG charges.
Activation
The pack activates automatically the first time your phone uses data, calls, or texts in Vietnam. To avoid charges before you fly, switch off "Data roaming" on your 2degrees SIM in your phone's mobile settings, or disable roaming in the 2degrees app.

When you take your 2degrees SIM to Vietnam, data roaming auto-activates and you start paying their daily Roaming Travel Pack rate. The pack is billed per day on any calendar day you use mobile data, calls, or texts overseas — even if you only use a few megabytes.

Questions, answered

How is the daily cost for 2degrees calculated?

2degrees's roaming products vary by data allowance and pack duration, so they aren't always priced as a flat daily fee. To compare like-for-like with KiwiSim's unlimited daily plan — which gives you around 1GB of data per day at top speed — we worked out what you'd actually pay 2degrees to get roughly the same data each day at their published rates. That's the figure used in the chart and tables on this page.

Is 2degrees roaming worth it in Vietnam?

2degrees roaming is convenient — there is no setup and your NZ number keeps working. But at the daily Roaming Travel Pack rate with a 1GB cap, it adds up fast on longer trips. For most travellers heading to Vietnam for more than 2-3 days, a KiwiSim eSIM works out significantly cheaper and gives you unlimited daily data.

How do I turn off 2degrees roaming before I travel?

Open the 2degrees app and disable international roaming, or turn off "Data roaming" for your 2degrees SIM in your phone's mobile settings (Settings → Mobile → 2degrees line → Data Roaming on iPhone, similar on Android). Doing both is safest. You can still receive calls and texts on your NZ number — you just will not be charged the daily pack fee.

Can I use 2degrees and KiwiSim at the same time?

Yes — that is the recommended setup. Keep your 2degrees SIM active for calls and texts on your NZ number (with data roaming off so you are not charged the daily pack fee), and use the KiwiSim eSIM for all your mobile data in Vietnam. Modern iPhones and Androids handle two SIMs natively.

Does 2degrees charge for incoming calls in Vietnam?

Incoming calls and texts are included in the 2degrees Daily Roaming pack while you are in their Travel Zone. The catch is the pack fee applies on any day you use data, calls, or texts — so even receiving a single text can trigger the daily charge.

What happens if I turn off cellular data and only use my eSIM?

If you turn off cellular data on your 2degrees SIM and use only the KiwiSim eSIM for data, 2degrees will not charge you the daily Roaming Travel Pack fee for data. Be aware that receiving a call or text on your NZ number may still trigger the pack — to be safe, switch off roaming entirely on the 2degrees line and use Wi-Fi calling or apps like WhatsApp.

Will I get charged by 2degrees if I install a KiwiSim eSIM?

No — installing a KiwiSim eSIM has no impact on your 2degrees account or billing. KiwiSim is a completely separate carrier connection running alongside your 2degrees SIM. You only pay for the KiwiSim plan you buy from us.

Does 2degrees roaming work on all phones?

Yes — 2degrees roaming works on any phone that takes your 2degrees SIM, since it is the same SIM you already use. KiwiSim eSIMs require an eSIM-compatible phone (most iPhones from XS / 2018 onward, and most flagship Androids from 2020 onward). Check our compatibility page if you are unsure.
