- No inclusion — outgoing and incoming calls are charged per minute, and texts per message, at PAYG rates. Receiving a call in Japan costs noticeably less than making one, but there is no free incoming.

- Allowed, but every MB tethered to another device is billed at the same per-MB PAYG rate. Hotspotting can drain your prepay balance very quickly.

- Japan is in Warehouse Mobile’s extended Asia roaming zone. Travel outside the standard zone may revert to PAYG rates.

- Nothing to activate — charges apply automatically the first time your SIM connects to a network in Japan. To avoid charges entirely, turn off "Data roaming" on your phone before you fly, or remove the Warehouse Mobile SIM while overseas.

How is the daily cost for Warehouse Mobile calculated?
Warehouse Mobile's roaming products vary by data allowance and pack duration, so they aren't always priced as a flat daily fee. To compare like-for-like with KiwiSim's unlimited daily plan — which gives you around 1GB of data per day at top speed — we worked out what you'd actually pay Warehouse Mobile to get roughly the same data each day at their published rates. That's the figure used in the chart and tables on this page.
Is Warehouse Mobile roaming worth it in Japan?
Honestly, no — not for data. Because Warehouse Mobile has no daily pack, you pay full PAYG rates per megabyte, which means even moderate phone use racks up bills in the hundreds. For voice-only emergencies in Japan it can be fine, but for anything involving data a KiwiSim eSIM is dramatically cheaper.
How do I avoid roaming charges on Warehouse Mobile before I travel?
Turn off "Data roaming" on the Warehouse Mobile line in your phone settings before you fly. If you want to be doubly safe, also remove the Warehouse Mobile SIM while overseas. There's no in-app toggle to disable roaming — the only protection is your phone's data roaming switch.
Can I use Warehouse Mobile and KiwiSim at the same time?
Yes — keep your Warehouse Mobile SIM in the phone with data roaming off (so it can't accidentally rack up PAYG data charges), and let the KiwiSim eSIM handle all your data while you're in Japan. Your Warehouse Mobile number stays available for incoming calls and texts if you want it.
Does Warehouse Mobile charge for incoming calls in Japan?
Yes — receiving a call on the Warehouse Mobile SIM in Japan costs around $1.15 per minute (a bit less in Australia and the UK). It's cheaper than making one, but not free. With data roaming off, the SIM still rings for incoming calls — pick up only if you're happy to pay the per-minute rate.
What happens if I turn off cellular data and only use my eSIM?
If you disable roaming on the Warehouse Mobile SIM and use only the KiwiSim eSIM for data, Warehouse Mobile won't charge you for any data usage. The Warehouse Mobile line can still receive calls and texts at PAYG rates — turn off the line entirely if you want zero risk of charges.
Will I get charged by Warehouse Mobile if I install a KiwiSim eSIM?
No — KiwiSim is a completely separate connection. Installing the eSIM has no impact on your Warehouse Mobile account or balance.
Does Warehouse Mobile roaming work everywhere?
Most major destinations are supported, but coverage is patchier than the major NZ carriers. Notably, the United States is not supported at all. Check Warehouse Mobile's roaming rates page before you fly to confirm Japan is covered and what the per-minute/per-MB rates currently are.
